Nickel Brazing Alloys for Joining of Metal Parts For High-temperature and Corrosion Applications
Wall Colmonoy is the forerunner in the manufacture and development of Nicrobraz® nickel-based brazing products. Nicrobraz® is the original nickel-based brazing filler metal, invented by Wall Colmonoy, and the most widely applied range of high-temperature nickel-based brazing alloys. The Pioneers and Continued Innovators
Wall Colmonoy is the pioneer and leader in the development and production of nickel-based brazing alloys. In the 1950s, Wall Colmonoy’s materials engineer, Bob Peaslee, invented a new brazing technology using nickel-based filler metals and hydrogen atmosphere furnaces. The new filler metal was named Nicrobraz®. Additional accessory, equipment and product innovations followed the invention of Nicrobraz® – including Stop-Off™, Nicrogap™ alloys and NicroSpray™ System. Wall Colmonoy continues to develop new brazing products to meet current market demands.
Nicrobraz® nickel-based brazing products are used throughout aerospace and automotive industries in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filler), Exhaust Gas Recirculation units (EGRs), Catalytic Converters, Fuel Cells and Heat Exchangers. Wall Colmonoy manufactures Nicrobraz® nickel-based brazing products, which are used extensively in the manufacture of these products.
EGRs are also commonly deployed in diesel engines to reduce the concentration of NOx. EGRs are usually brazed under high vacuum conditions using nickel-based filler metals to achieve good metallurgical bonding. Major manufacturers of EGR Coolers have selected Nicrobraz® 31, 33 and 152 as the brazing filler metals of choice. Read about Nicrobraz® and EGRs in our Nicrobraz® News Issue.
Brazing Powder: Atomized in -106 and -45μm (-140and -325 mesh size). Other mesh sizes can be custom-made.
Brazing Rods: Nicrobraz® LM, Nicrobraz® 125, Nicrobraz® 130, Nicrobraz® 135, and Nicrobraz® 16 are available as rods. Available in diameters of 0.79 mm, 1.19 mm, 1.41 mm, 1.59 mm, 3.18 mm (1/32″, 3/64″, 1/18″, 1/16″, and 1/8″) for torch brazing.
Brazing Pastes for Dispensing, for Screen Printing, for Roller Coating: Nicrobraz® ‘S’ brazing filler metals are filler metal powders mixed with gel binder and packaged in air applicator cartridges (100, 227 and 567 grams (3.5, 8 and 20 ounces (net weight) of ‘S’ filler metal), hand syringes ( 100 grams (3.5 ounces) (net weight) of ‘S’ filler metal and are made of plastic for one-time use) or bulk containers (available on special order in 8 lb. (3.6 kg.) jars for use in pressure-fed systems).
Brazing Transfer Tape & Sheet: Nicrobraz® filler metal powder mixed with binder and mounted on a plastic sheet in precise thicknesses, with self- adhesive backing (transfer tape), or without (sheet).

Nicrobraz® powders are stable under normal atmospheric conditions; therefore, a recommended shelf life is not given for these products. These alloy materials do not degrade, under normal storage conditions. If these materials are stored in unopened containers, and kept free from contamination, they will be usable for an indefinite period of time.

The shelf life of Nicrobraz® Brazing Paste materials is a minimum range of three to nine months (see bulletin). This means that the material will last at least that long and much longer, when properly stored in closed containers. There is no deterioration of the brazing filler metal itself. As long as the material will extrude from the cartridge satisfactorily, it is still usable.

Nicrobraz® Tape & Sheet have a minimum shelf life of two (2) years when properly stored. Minimum shelf life means that the product will
last at least that amount of time.
